exhibit by the Young Embroiderers, which was shown at Gawthorpe Hall in September 2006 as part of the Embroiderers' Guild Centenary celebrations
The inspiration for these funky wall pockets, made by the Parbold Branch Young Embroiderers, came from an article in the Young Embroiderers magazine, 'Textile Ideas', by Lynn Szygenda, about wall pockets stitched in the 19th Century.
As Gawthorpe Hall was occupied in the Victorian era we thought that we could make these pockets using felt and taking the beautiful designs on the ceilings and floors of the Hall for the decoration of the pockets.
All the children loved making the felt and then decorating them with stitches and beads.

The pockets are by Esme, Karen, Lana, Lillah, Lisa, Lucy, Maisie, Megan, Rebecca, Ruth, Vivian and Zoe.
